Demodectic Mange

Dog demodectic mange Demodectic mange - demodex - in a dog is caused by a microscopic mite called demodex canis. The demodex mite is a "normal" inhabitant of the dog skin.

If the demodex mite population becomes very large, demodectic mange spreads and can cause serious skin disorders in dogs. Demodectic mange causes hair loss, itchy scalp, skin rashes, and yeast infections.

If your Vet diagnoses demodectic mange, you always have to consider any primary conditions that might be affecting your dogs immune system. For medication it is crucial to boost the immune system first. Healthy dogs never develop demodectic mange!

Demodectic mange does not spread to humans, dogs or to other pets. Medication may take a long time, but is easy to do.
